Classic American Rides on Classic American Roads

The project is a 1971 Chevy El Camino that my father bought new back in early 1972. About fifteen years ago, he pulled the original 307 with the intention of rebuilding the car. A year ago, we hauled it over to my shop. We decided to take everything down as far as it could go, so that we could do it the right way.
The frame was sandblasted and powdercoated. All suspension pieces were upgraded with Spohn, BMR, Hotchkiss, and Detroit Speed pieces. The stock ten-bolt rear was converted to a posi unit with lower gears and stronger axles. A big brake kit was added for discs on all four corners. 17" wheels are Coys with 245/45ZR General tires.
The previous roof had a hole it in for a sunroof. The roof was replaced by Metalworks Classics. They also acid dipped the entire body to remove all paint filler and rust. After dipping, there were many spots where rust had eaten through the metal. These were all repaired by myself. The floorboards also needed replacing. Again done by myself. The interior, inside all panels, firewall, underside, and bed were all coated using Rust Bullet products.
All the bodywork and painting was done by myself with the help of a friend. The body is shot with SEM Hot Rod Black paint.
The engine is a new ZZ4 Crate engine from Pace Performance. The transmission is the original TH350 that was rebuilt. The torque converter is just slightly over stock at 2100 rpm.
I am hoping to wrap it up by November. I will definitely send you more pics and information as I make progress.
